Johnson lifts OTC past PP PanthersPublished 11:09am Wednesday, April 18, 2012
Rosie Johnson’s bat paved the way for the Otter Tail Central’s 9-8 softball victory on Tuesday in Battle Lake. Her seventh inning walk-off home run lifted the Bulldogs past the Parkers Prairie Panthers.
“It wasn’t the prettiest win, but Rosie rose to the challenge when it mattered,” said OTC coach Eric Olson. “She picked a nice time to hit her first home run.
“We are still struggling with some mental parts of the game, but we are inexperienced and trying to figure out where we need kids to play.”
Johnson finished the game 2-for-4, with three runs scored and two RBI’s. Carley VanWatermulen was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI’s.
Shaina Underhill picked up the victory, as she improved to 2-1 on the season.
OTC raced out to a 5-0 lead, with two runs in the second, two in the third and one in the fourth. The Panthers took a 6-5 lead with four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.
The Bulldogs pushed across two runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead at 7-6. Parkers Prairie re-established the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh.
That set the stage for Johnson’s dramatic blast in the Bulldogs last at bat, which she knocked out of the park.
The OTC Bulldogs will host Bertha-Hewitt on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in Battle Lake.
