City’s RTC grant options clarified [UPDATED]

Advisor on the RTC Kent Mattson also discussed on Monday the city’s options with the demolition/infrastructure grant it has been given for the Kirkbride building. During recent conversations with the Minnesota Department of Administration, Mattson learned three things: the department will not allot the city more money in the grant, it is open to extending the grant to 2014 (likely May, possibly December), and it will not allow the city to use the grant on property that would revert back to the city from a failed developer.

The city could still appeal for more time or more money, but that approval, said Mattson, would likely have to come from the state Legislature. The city would have to make its case along with every other city requesting funding or grant extensions.
