Renewing the library on task [UPDATED]
Published 10:22am Thursday, May 3, 2012 Updated 12:23pm Thursday, May 3, 2012When I last wrote about the Library Renewal Task Force in late March, the members had just attended their second meeting exploring the structure, governance and funding of public libraries.
Since then, task force members have formed committees and begun the “meat and potatoes” part of their work.
As a reminder, the task force is made up of 10 community members focused on informing and engaging the community in a discussion about library service, resource and infrastructure needs. It’s this focus that led to the addition of the term “renewal” to the library task force and project names.
According to the Merriam Webster Dictionary, the word “renewal” means “to make like new: restore to freshness, vigor, or perfection.”
The primary goal of the Library Renewal Project is to preserve valued traditional library services while also meeting future needs.
The Fergus Falls Public Library, established in 1891, has been serving the Fergus Falls area’s information, recreation and education needs for 121 years.
In light of the recent changes in technology and in library customer’s service, program and resource needs, it’s time to build on that tradition, while also restoring the library to “freshness” so that it is poised to meet the future.
Enter the Library Renewal Project and Task Force. Watch for more information (coming soon) on how you can help renew the library.
The task force is busy planning focus groups, where you’ll be able to share your library experiences with the task force and other community members.
In addition to the focus groups, the task force is also planning to kick-off the Library Renewal Project and the community discussion in an interactive, informative and fun way. Watch for more information on that front too. Sorry to keep you in suspense, but I promise it’ll be worth the wait.
Going forward, the Library Renewal Task Force will meet the first Saturday of each month at 9:30 a.m. in the library’s Jean Dahling meeting room.
