Nancy Lou Fredrickson Garner [UPDATED]

Nancy decided that being in the military would not only provide her with the G.I. Bill for college but she looked forward to experiencing life outside of Fergus Falls after her high school graduation in 1971.

Taking an aptitude test, Nancy scored high in the secretarial area. “I liked it, as I was responsible for 240th Company – 90th Infantry. As a single female I met a lot of men and my duties were scheduling appointments and typing orders. Meeting and connecting with co-workers was one of my favorite memories. I met lots of friends of different races and we learned to rely on one another. (We’d shop together during our weekend passes at the Post Exchange.)”

Nancy studied criminal justice after the service in college and later became a certified nursing assistant, working in nursing homes.

“I am currently on disability for a variety of health reasons, but I take great pride in having participated in the military. I feel very patriotic…my experience certainly made me a better person. Serving in the military is definitely a unique and special experience!”

Nancy shared her recent experience: “The recent movie, ‘Act of Valor’ was excellent. It was definitely accurate and inspiring.” ‘Act of Valor’ will most likely arrive on DVD sometime this summer. We will definitely want to watch it!

We thank you, Nancy for your dedication through serving in the Army during the Vietnam War era. We are proud of you and…“WE SALUTE YOU!”
