Underwood School honors its students [UPDATED]
Published 9:28am Monday, May 14, 2012 Updated 11:30am Monday, May 14, 2012This has been a great spring for Underwood as our students have met with success in a variety of arenas. Here are some highlights:
• Steffan Stroh was chosen as the American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year for Minnesota. He will receive a 1,000 dollar scholarship and will now compete nationally for a 10,000 dollar scholarship.
• 75 Underwood High School Students competed at the National Financial Capability Challenge. 25 of these students were recognized nationally for being in the top 20th percentile. Three of these students were awarded perfect scores: Courtney Bolstad, Alysse Friedrich, and Brianna Vogel.
• Daityn Beske (3rd grade) was chosen as the grand prize winner of the Ottertail County Seatbelt Poster Contest. Her poster will be displayed on the billboard on N. Tower Road in Fergus Falls.
• The Underwood Speech Team placed third in Section 6A Speech Tournament. Megan Thormodson and Aaron Thompson placed 1st in their categories. Ivy Callahan, Spencer Johnson, and Dana Speer placed 2nd in their categories.
• The Underwood Economics Challenge made it to state this year. Taking 3rd place overall in state competition.
• Choir and Band both received 3 stars and superior ratings at the large group competition this year. Superior ratings are the highest ratings that a band and choir program can receive. Once again our music program exceeded expectations as the kids showed their commitment to excellence.
• Entertainment to Dine for was a huge success with about 80 of our students performing. This event was put on by countless dedicated parents and volunteers.
• National Honor Society inducted eight new members who will continue the tradition of excellence.
• Underwood students raised $1,234.60 for the American Cancer Society through Penny Wars which were conducted during the Snow Week. The freshman class was the winner and selected the American Cancer Society to receive these funds.
We are very proud of all the success that students have experienced.
Congratulations to all those students who continue to make Underwood a school of excellence
