Chargers rally past Comets for 11-4 win

Published 10:34am Tuesday, May 22, 2012

The Hillcrest Comets took an early lead, but saw the Brandon-Evansville Chargers make their move late in the game to take a 11-4 Pheasant Conference win.

A little bit of small ball helped the Comets take an early four-run lead as a steal, sacrafice bunt and a two-out single plated the Hillcrest runs.

The Chargers started to chip away at the lead, tieing the game up in the fourth inning.

Brandon-Evansville continued to find the sweet spot of the bat as a five-run sixth put the Comets out of reach.

“We had a nice balanced night offensively with eight different players making contributions to this victory and several different players coming up with important hits with runners in scoring position,” Chargers’ Coach Brian Perleberg said.

Levi Hintermeister led the attack for the Chargers going 3 for 4 with three stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI.

Hillcrest’s Zach Nersten knocked in two runs for the Comets in the game.

Tom Bosek picked up the win coming in relief for J.T. Huisman, going four and two thirds and holding the Comets scoreless.

Mark Undseth fell victum to the loss as the pitcher gave up nine hits and five earned in six innings of work.

The Comets committed seven errors in the game allowing four unearned Charger runs.

The Chargers will look to keep their current 10 game winning streak alive as they travel to take on West Central Area Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., while the Comets look to shake off their funk as they travel to play Pelican Rapids Tuesday at 5 p.m.
