New food options a good idea [UPDATED]

The school district’s recent decision to offer new meal options sits well on our palate.

With the crazy schedules teens have, running from classes to after-school practices or leaving school early for a game, eating anything, let alone something healthy, often takes a low priority.

The district is doing the right thing for its students by offering meals to take on the go, and even offering them in the concession area — where students are more apt to grab a sack lunch — makes a lot of sense.

Lifestyles of families, and kids in particular, have changed immensely over the years, so making changes to the meal options available is a good marketing tool.

As the district shows its willingness to accommodate its “customers” — which are students and their families — it is also saying we put our kids first, which in turn can help recruit students.

But more important than the big picture — in our minds — is that hopefully kids will start eating better
