Protecting the protector [UPDATED]

Police departments, firefighters, medical responders all have different forms of protection while they are on the job, whether they are bullet proof vests, fire resistant clothing or rubber gloves.

For area sheriff’s deputies, the protector is Zeus.

Zeus a three-year-old German shepherd. On Saturday the Nidaros 4-H club helped raise money for Wadena County so they could buy a special bullet proof vest for Zeus.

“I have had him since he was just a puppy,” Savaloja said. “He gets up and comes to work with me everyday and comes home with me at the end of the day. He is a special dog. He doesn’t like to sit still for anything; he is go go all the time. I wish I had his energy.”

Zeus serves Wadena county and the surrounding area. The money raised will go toward the purchase of a bulletproof vest for him.
