Edgar Hinz
Published 7:51am Monday, July 2, 2012 Updated 12:58pm Monday, July 2, 2012Edgar Hinz, 87, of Bismarck, died June 30, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Home in Bismarck. 
Edgar was born on Dec.13, 1924, on the family homesteaded farm in Corliss Township outside of Perham, to Herman and Clara (Radke) Hinz.
Edgar grew up on the farm with his younger sister, Evelyn
He attended Perham High School and graduated in 1942.
He began farming with his parents, but was called for Army duty near the end of WWII.
After his discharge, Edgar returned to the family farm.
Married Myrtle Walk on June 7, 1953.
After getting married, Edgar left the farm and began working in the lumber business, eventually managing the Wilcox Lumber Yards in New York Mills and Perham.
He finished his lumber career with the Merickel family at Wadena Builders Supply.
In retirement, Edgar continue to work at the local hardware store, Bretz Hardware, drove a flower delivery truck for John’s Floral, and continued to care for his acres of yard and gardens that were a landmark on Highway 78 south of Perham.
In business, everyone knew Ed for his clean, crisp, white shirt; a trademark he carried until his death.
In 2005, Edgar and Myrtle moved to Bismarck to be with their only son, Jeff, his wife, Lori, and their three grandsons.
Ed and Mert were “adopted” in Bismarck by their good friends and neighbors, Arlan, Sharon, and Skip who made them feel at home and watched over them.
Edgar is survived by his wife, Myrtle of Bismarck; his son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lori Hinz of Bismarck; and his three grandsons, Sam, Ben, and Adam, who were the pride and joy of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Clara, and his sister, Evelyn.
Visitation: Tuesday, 6 to 9 p.m. with prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. at East Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, at Zion Lutheran Church, Bismarck

Burial: 2 p.m. at N.D. Veterans Cemetary
