Police probe dog shooting

Published 11:15am Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Fergus Falls police are deliberating whether to cite a man for firing shots in city limits after he killed a dog that bit his relative on Sunday.

As previously reported, the dog bit a woman and killed her dog Sunday night on the 1700 block of Main Street. The dog’s owner, Randy Swensrud, received a citation related to the incident.

Police reported today that on the same day, a relative of the woman went looking for Swensrud’s dog and found near where the woman had been bit. The dog reportedly became aggressive with the man, at which point he shot and killed it.

The city is looking into whether Swensrud’s dog’s shots were up to date.
