Lightning causes bale fire

A lightning strike on the Norgren farm northeast of Underwood nearly caused significant damage to the property this morning, law enforcement reported.

Shortly after 8 a.m., lightning struck a large hay bale on the property, starting it and another bale on fire. The bales were very close to a large building on the farm property that was storing more than 100 more hay bales.

Elizabeth firefighters responded to the scene and, with the help of the Norgren family, were able to contain the fire before it could spread to the building.
