No kids allowed? Area courses weigh in on Fargo’s age restrictions

Tuesday evening, the Fargo Park Board will make a decision on whether to allow children three or younger to be on the city’s five municipal golf courses.
Fargo already has age restrictions on their courses — banning those four and under and not allowing children of any age to be in strollers or car seats.
Many of the area golf courses do not have an age restriction, but do require that children golf with an adult.
At Pebble Lake Golf Course in Fergus Falls, children 12 and under are able to golf for free with a paid adult and are allowed to golf alone in league play at 12.
“Basically, children play the course with their parents,” PLGC Pro Ryan Tungseth said. “Adults are very observant of their kids and it has not been a problem at our facility.”
John Young, Director of Golf at Balmoral, agrees stating that parents usually accompany their children when golfing and don’t use the course as a babysitter.
“We allow golfers of any age to play our course and the youth that play tend to be very respectable,” Young added.
“We are a family oriented golf course,” Birchwood in Pelican Rapids Owner Brian Evenson said. “The main thing is that the parents remain responsible for their kids when they are on the course.”
None who were interviewed believe that any restriction will be implemented in the future as long as golfer, young and old, use proper etiquette on the course.
