FF Legion swipe two from Perham [UPDATED]Published 7:23am Wednesday, July 11, 2012 Updated 7:23am Wednesday, July 11, 2012
PERHAM — A double-header was just what the doctor ordered as the Fergus Falls Post 30 team was able to get back in the win column with a pair of victories over Perham.
Fergus’s bats were alive in game one as they collected 13 hits and a 9-1 win.
Pete Gaustad led Post 30 hitters going 2 for 4 with a solo homerun and two runs scored, while teammates Walker Heinen, Brady Hansen and Zach Nersten each knocked in a pair of runs in the game.
Zach Rengel took the win going three and a third innings strikingout five batters and allowing one run. Gaustad finished the game for Fergus picking up eight Ks and allowing two hits.
Game two saw a great pitching performance backed up by offensive firepower as Fergus finished with a dual win 10-3.
Austin Hanson did it all in the second game as he went the distance on the mound giving up six hits and allowing one earned and going 3 for 4 from the plate with three runs scored and two RBI.
Gaustad again was a force to be reckoned with going 3 for 4 with a homerun, two doubles, three RBI and a run scored. Teammate Nersten was perfect in the box going 3 for 3 with a double and a run batted in.
“On a day where we needed to come out and play some good baseball we set the tone early offensively in game one,” Fergus Coach Nick Lewis said. “Top to bottom we executed very well through the lineup and we got great pitching and had our best game defensively behind our pitchers.”
The Post 30 team will travel to Eagan Friday for the beginning of the Gopher Classic. Fergus will take on Watertown, S.D. at 1:30 p.m. and Eagan at 4 p.m.
