What’s happening July 13-15

With Pelican Fest, Dent Daze, Phelps Mill Fest and the Henning Festival all going on this weekend — as well as the RTC hug — area residents will have plenty of opportunities to have fun and get outside.

Formerly known as Turkey Days, Pelican Fest will host a long list of events this weekend including a naturalization ceremony, Little Miss Pelican Pageant, parade and street dance.

The Henning Festival will feature the past vs. present Henning Giants baseball game, the Bob Polzine Walk/Run, a parade and a street dance.

On Saturday, visitors will more than double the population of Dent for its annual Dent Daze. The event will feature a 5K and 1K youth run, kids inflatable games, a parade and a bean bag toss tournament.

The annual Phelps Mill Festival will take place this Saturday and Sunday. Attractions will include George the Juggler, country music by Sherwin and Pam Linton and the Cotton Kings, Magic by Nicholas and Douglas Wood and the Wild Spirit Band.

The following is a list of some of the events happening in the area this weekend.

 

Friday

• Pelican Fest: Naturalization ceremony, 1 p.m. at E.L. Peterson Park; Little Miss Pelican Pageant, 5:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church; Jaycee’s Street Dance and beer garden, 9 p.m. at West Mill

• Henning Giants Present vs. Henning Giants Past baseball game, 7:30 p.m.

• Minnesota Pinto Horse Association show

• Stock car races, 7 to 10 p.m. at I-94 Speedway

 

Saturday

• Pelican Fest: Flea market, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by the city pool; Classic car show 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Grand Parade, 11 a.m. at Main Street; Jaycee’s street dance, 9 p.m.

• Henning Festival: Bob Polzine Walk/Run, 8 a.m. at the football field; Kiddie parade, 11 a.m. beginning at City Park; Queen Coronation, 3 p.m. at the festival grounds; Street dance, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the festival grounds

• Dent Daze: 5K and 1K youth run, 9 a.m.; Kids games, noon to 1:30 p.m.; Parade, 2 p.m.; Dent Lions chicken feed, 4 p.m.; Bean bag tournament, 6 p.m.

• Phelps Mill Fest: Festival grounds open from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; George the Juggler, noon and 2:25 p.m.; Country music by Sherwin and Pam Linton and the Cotton Kings, 1:15 p.m. and 4 p.m.

• Chain of Lakes Classic Boat Show at Arrowwood Resort and Conference Center

• Minnesota Pinto Horse Association show

• Kids fishing clinic, 9 a.m. to noon at Glendalough State Park

• Flash mob – Hug the Kirkbride, 11 a.m. followed by tours until 5 p.m. at the RTC grounds.

• Wildflowers walk, noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Prairie Wetlands Learning Center

• Butterflies: On the Hunt, 1 to 3 p.m. at Maplewood State Park

 

Sunday

• Henning Festival: Community worship service, 9 a.m. at the festival grounds; Henning Giants vs. Wadena Deer Creek baseball game, 1 p.m. at the Henning baseball field

• Phelps Mill Festival: Festival grounds open from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Magic by Nicholas, 12:30 p.m.; Douglas Wood and the Wild Spirit Band, 1:45 p.m.

• Minnesota Pinto Horse Association show

• “The Beat Goes On” multi-cultural percussionists, 9:30 a.m. at North Immanuel Lutheran Church
