Wenonga Days start Thursday in BL [UPDATED]

There is no shortage of summer fun and festivity as the annual Battle Lake Wenonga Days begins toward the end of this week.
Starting off the festival are turtle races at 11 a.m. Thursday, in the Battle Lake City parking lot.
The mania continues as Battle Lake hosts its own Crazy Days on Friday and Saturday.
Following the sales is a live music event where the band, Confusion, will perform from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, at the Old Brick Inn.
Saturday is packed with family-friendly activites and events, including the second annual craft and vendor fair that will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the city parking lot, across from the Lakes Area community center.
Earlier in the morning is a 5k walk/run in support of the Susan G. Koman Cancer Walk Team named “High Hopes.”
The registration fee is $25 and registration for the walk/run will begin at 7 a.m. at the concession stand at the Battle Lake School football field.
The race starts at 8 a.m. followed by a youth race of one mile for children 12 years old and younger at 9:30 a.m.
Registration for the youth race is from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Featured at Wenonga Days for the first time is Dennis Rogers, a Spirit Dancer. He is known all across the country for teaching native culture. Rogers is not only a dancer and performer, but he is also the director of the Native American Studies Programs in Kansas.
He is currently on tour with Nashville recording artist Blackhawk, where they will make an appearance at the Detroit Lakes Pavillion.
Rogers is currently scheduled to perform at WeFest with John Anderson after Battle Lake Wenonga Days.
Dennis Rogers will perform on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and will also take part in the Battle Lake parade.
The parade has more than 80 units, attracting so many people that there’s only standing room in the streets to watch.
The parade will begin at 7 p.m.
Ending Saturday festivities will be the Street Dance from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. by the Old Brick Inn.
Live music by “Nasty Habit” will be featured on the street, along with live music by the “Receaders” in the Beer Garden at Stubb’s.
In addition to the music is the Wenonga Day fireworks that will begin at approximately 10 p.m. at the Battle Lake School Football Field.
“It’s a fun family event for everyone,” said Jen Knudson, event coordinator, on why people enjoy Wenonga Days. “The most popular attraction is the parade. People look forward to it every year.”
