Mayfield was a teacher of music theory and technology to K-12 students and adults for 10 years, until he quit his day job in  2011 to make a living playing music.

While earning his B.A. in music education from Concordia College in Moorhead, Matt learned to play a large number of band and orchestra instruments, and currently plays guitar and keyboards in a variety of bands in the Twin Cities area.

Mayfield and his wife, Rachel, live in St. Paul’s Mac/Groveland neighborhood, and walk to the public library at least once a month every summer.
