Schlepp to lead Otter mat menPublished 8:49am Monday, July 16, 2012 Updated 12:50pm Monday, July 16, 2012
After a valuable coach steps down, the process of finding someone to continue the success and uphold the ideals set out for the program can be hard.
The Fergus Falls Otter wrestling team did not have to look far to find someone that will continue to move the team in the right direction.
The Fergus Falls School Board announced at their Monday morning meeting that Fergus Falls alum, Adam Schlepp, will be the new wrestling coach for the Otters.
“I couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity,” Schlepp said. “I look forward to helping students achieve success on and off the mat.
Schlepp takes over for former coach, Mark Aho, who stepped down after 16 seasons as the Otters’ Head Coach.
“Mark has done a great job with the program and I just want to continue to keep our goals and high standards.”
Schlepp had a stellar senior year going 39-4, recording his 100th win, and finishing with a third place finish at the 2003 state tournament in the 119 lb.. weight class.
In 2007, Schlepp joined Aho’s coaching staff working with 7th through 9th graders. This past season, Schlepp assumed the role of Assistant Head Coach on the varsity and currently works at Lakeland Mental Health as a paraprofessional.
Schlepp plans to keep the same coaching staff from the previous season, including Aho, who will be assisting the young coach next year.
“I think it is ideal to have Mark on the coaching staff. He will be able to help me in my first years as head coach,” Schlepp added.
Schlepp will take over a team that saw several dual wins, before being defeated by Perham in the Section 8AA semi-finals.
In other news, the school board announced the approval of Brad Strand as the Head Girls’ Basketball Coach and the resignation of Josh Mohagen as the Head Boys’ Tennis Coach. Other hires included Beth Skaret as a special education teacher and support staff hires of Sarah Gilbert, Tammy Unger and Christi Biederman.
