Beach move makes sense [UPDATED]Published 7:09am Monday, August 6, 2012 Updated 12:12pm Monday, August 6, 2012
The city seems to be on the right track as it discusses moving Pebble Lake Beach to DeLagoon Park.
The beach has gotten a lot of use this year, and that’s good. However, the same people using the beach now could still use it at DeLagoon, and they would be joined by the park’s campers.
It wouldn’t be hurting the current user base; it would just be adding a new one.
Though the beach is a good service, it’s also seen some rough times in recent years, with high water problems affecting the area.
A fresh start could be good for the beach and those who use it, so long as the city provides the same amenities the beach has now.
Perhaps the smartest step the city is considering is packaging the beach move with the hoped-for renovation of DeLagoon Park.
If the city snags Legacy funds, it can complete the improvements and the beach move on the state’s dime, leading to a better campground experience and more revenue in city coffers.
Considering that campers from other parts of the state frequently use DeLagoon right now, it would be an improvement that people from around the state could enjoy.
