The town of Vergas’ end-of-summer fesitval is all about community celebration and appreciation, according to Looney Days’ Chairwoman Marlette Anderson-Otto.

“There are a variety of things that appeal to all ages, so it’s a great family event,” she said.

Local pageant activites and the “Shop Vergas” promotions take place Thursday and Friday, Aug. 9 and 10, while the majority of the events happen Saturday, Aug. 11 and Sunday, Aug 12.

Attractions include the 5K Run/Walk, with registration at 8 a.m. and the run at 9 a.m, a kittenball tournament, bingo, and road rally. “At noon, the Minnesota Zoo naturalist presentation is an ageless event.” The Zoomobile features live animals and biological artifacts used to educate the audience in a fun and engaging way. All day, Main Street will be overflowing with 50 vendors, seven food booths, and a beer garden.

The Loon Call Contest is one of the festival’s biggest events, again including participants from young to old. Registration is at 1 p.m., and the calling starts at 2 p.m. That afternoon and night features live music and a street dance to Fat Cats.

Registration for the Collectible Car and Motorcycle Show is 8 a.m. Sunday morning, with the show from 9 a.m. to noon. Following is the Classic Car and Motorcycle parade, and then the large, military-dedicated Vergas Looney Daze Parade at 2 p.m. A strong man/woman competition, water fights, and three raffles are after the parade and into the night.

“We want to welcome everyone to enjoy some fun afternoons in Vergas,” said Anderson-Otto, “There is something for everyone to enjoy.”
