Former member Schierer files for FF City Council [UPDATED]

Former Fergus Falls City Council member Ben Schierer filed Thursday to run against current Ward One Alderman Eric Shelstad.

Schierer was an alderman in the city’s Ward Four from 2004 to 2008. He did not file for reelection in 2008, and his seat was eventually won by JoEllen Thacker.

With Schierer’s entry into the race, the only uncontested seat left in the city council race is for the Ward Four seat currently held by Thacker. She has not yet filed for reelection, and the only person who has filed for the seat is Tim King.

The filing period for city council and school board ends Aug. 14.

Thacker needs to just wither away in the dust. The only reason she wanted on the council in the first place was to get her son David a new Hockey arena. (Your job is done) you can go now before you do more damage.

Shelstad needs to go for the same reason. Another Hockey coach on the merry go round to fullfil what his father never could, To get an Arena pounded through no matter what the citizens wanted or not.

People in these wards need to remember, it was these two councilmembers who blatantly disregarded what the community wanted and decided that they would decide if they wanted a project or not. There was enough people to show that there should have been a referendum, but they decided that they could make a six million dollar choice without our input. They are supposed to represent us, and clearly neither of these two have.

Everyone who voted in favor of not giving the citizens a choice and a voice that goes up for re-election, now is the time to show up to the polls and remove them.
