Criminals won’t change because of gun control laws [UPDATED]

Gun Control: A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people, who claim to believe — against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings — will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun and use large capacity magazines … and then blame the NRA for their actions.

What is “Monumentally Stupid”, is to believe that because criminals won’t obey the law, that we can do nothing.

What is “Monumentally Stupid”, is to believe that more guns make us more safe.

What is “Monumentally Stupid”, is to think that anonymous internet and gun show sales are what the second amendment is all about.

What is “Monumentally Stupid”, is to think that 100 round drums are for hunting.

What is “Monumentally Stupid”, is to believe that the NRA has the best interests of this country at heart.

But, what is the most stupid thing to come down the pike since Sarah Palin is the argument that more people with guns in the theater in Colorado would have resulted is fewer people killed.

People in other countries have solved this gun control issue and they are just as free as we are, they still have their guns. What they don’t have is the NRA.

By the way, I’m a gun owner, I have a Colt Buntline Scout, a Henry Golden Boy and a H&R 410 shotgun.

What the writer seems to be saying that it’s “monumentally stupid” to pass a law and think people will follow it. For example, according to FBI statistics, there are between 88,000 and 109,000 cases of forcible rape in the United States each year (1990-2009). So, obviously, this law isn’t working, and if the law can’t stop illegal activity from happening, then there doesn’t seem to be any point in making that law. If we take the “low” year of 88,000, that’s about 241 forcible rapes a day. Thus, what we need to do is abolish the law that makes forcible rape a crime and then there won’t be 241 cases a day, there will be zero. No, it doesn’t mean that the activity will stop (but the law wasn’t stopping it anyway – right?), but it will no longer be reported because it won’t be a crime. To quote a Guinness commercial, “It’s brilliant!” So the obvious way to reduce crime is to get rid of laws that are being broken (because, as the writer says, if the law isn’t going to stop them, then why bother?).
