Deputies investigate road fires

Published 11:02am Thursday, August 23, 2012

Sheriff’s deputies are on the lookout for a person who started a gasoline fire on Walker Lake Drive Tuesday night.

According to reports, a person poured gas on the road near the 39101 address shortly before midnight and lit the gas on fire. It quickly ignited and caused a commotion but soon went out, not causing serious damage to the road.

A dark maroon Chevrolet truck was seen in the area around the time of the incident, and several gas cans were recovered nearby.

A similar incident of a person igniting gas on a road was reported earlier this month on the nearby Indian Drive (off Otter Tail Lake). No evidence links the two cases, but the sheriff’s office said they may be connected due to the proximity and activity of the calls.

Anyone with possible information about the fires or the truck is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 998-8555.
