MORRIS — The West Central Area Knight Cross Country team opened their season with a boys eighth place finish and a girls seventh place finish.

Abby VanKempen led the Knight girls finishing in fourth place with a time of 16:23.

“She had a race plan going in and fell a little bit behind of where she wanted to be,” Knights’ coach John VanKempen said. “But we were happy that she finished where she did in the field with some A and AA schools.”

In boys action, Alex Toms was able to pick up a sixth place finish with a time of 17:58.

The Knights will travel to Breckenridge Thursday for their second meet of the season.
