Bypass planning good idea [UPDATED]

Though it will likely be a while before many of the proposed Fergus Falls transportation plan’s changes take place, we applaud the city for being forward thinking. The north, east, and west bypasses in particular sound like a solid idea if the city expands.heads

Of course, whether or not the city’s population will grow remains to be seen. Though the town’s business sector appears to be growing, the 2010 census showed the number of city residents taking a hit.

Still, planning for growth seems to be the best move. The approval of a transportation plan doesn’t mean that every project contained within will be built immediately; it simply means that future city leaders have a guideline for projects if the city’s roads reach capacity.

The transportation plan is also taking into account pedestrians and people who park their cars in driveways off crowded streets. By considering everyone who uses Fergus Falls’ roads, not just drivers, the city can provide a safer environment for all commuters.
