A 28-year-old Fergus Falls man was sentenced to three months in jail Monday for false imprisonment after he wouldn’t let his ex-girlfriend out of his car earlier this year in the city.

Ryan Ernest Bagley had a gross misdemeanor domestic assault charge dismissed. He was placed on probation for four years and sentenced to community service to pay off a $750 fine.

Bagley’s crime occurred April 3 after getting into a fight with his girlfriend, who broke up with him. In the evening, he came to her house and yelled at her to get into his car. She did, and he began driving around, refusing to let her out even though she tried to leave several times.

Eventually, Bagley hit a mailbox and almost went into a ditch near the intersection of Melody Lane and Alcott Avenue (the collision caused the car’s window to break, resulting in minor cuts to the woman). After threatening to destroy his phone, the female was able to leave the vehicle and call police.
