Martinez, Comets blast Lakers 6-1

DETROIT LAKES — The Hillcrest boys soccer team relied on a hat trick by Luis Martinez and tough defense as they handed the Detroit Lakes Lakers 6-1.

Martinez started the scoring early for the Comets, hitting his first goal at the four minute mark. Three minutes later, Martinez took a pass from Eric Diaz and deposited it in the back of the Lakers net.

Detroit Lakes was able to cut the lead in half seven minutes later as a 40 yard free kick trickled into the Hillcrest net.

Hillcrest struck one more time before the end of the half as Chris Pellegrino took a Quincy Undseth pass and booted it into the net for a 3-1 halftime lead.

Martinez completed the hat trick four minutes into the second half taking a pass from Pellegrino. Anders Bjorndal and Pellegrino would add the last two goals as the Comets claimed the victory.

The Comets will be off till next week as they host the Crookston Pirates at 4 p.m. Thursday.
