The Fergus Falls boys soccer team stepped on the field Thursday afternoon, but it left its offense at home as the visiting Sartell Sabres walked away with a 7-0 victory.

The Otters were able to keep the game deadlocked at zeros, until the Sabres’ Kyle Erickson chipped in a rebound with six minutes left in the first half.

Sartell was able to take command in the second half as Erickson added his second goal 15 minutes into the half. Jared Forst would add another goal four minutes later to put Fergus down 3-0.

The scoring frenzy started with 17 minutes left in the game as Erickson notched his third goal of the game, followed a minute later by Kellen Cameron.

Brandon Schuchard scored the last two goals for the Sabres as the Otters left the field.

“We played very competitively for about 65 minutes,” Otters coach Beau Krueger said. “To be successful we need to play competitively for 80 minutes.”

Krueger also credited the goal play of Connor Hatfield as the Sabres kept the netminder busy most of the afternoon.

The Otters will look to find their offensive spark next Tuesday at they travel to take on Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm at 5 p.m.
