Glendalough, Battle Lake bike trail construction pushed to next spring

The bike trail that will make a loop from Battle Lake to Glendalough State Park will have to wait until next construction season, assistant county engineer Chuck Grotte reported to the board.

The project went up for bids, but the county decided to hold off on the project after significantly higher-than-expected price tags were offered, Grotte said.

The project is split into three segments. The DNR is in charge of about three miles of trail, the county will cover a half mile and the township and city are covering roughly a mile and a half of the project.

The county was hoping for a low bid of around $125,000 but were only offered $325,000. The DNR had a similar problem when they received a low bid of more than $1 million. The delay from the county and DNR will put all three segments on about the same timeline for construction. The project is expected to be complete by fall 2013.
