Necessity was the primary concern for a fenced-in hole near the Minnesota Veterans Home. However, as the “doorway” to the home, aesthetic beauty was also a priority.

Due to the recent expansion, the holding pond campacity in front of the main building needed to be expanded to meet codes.

“It’s the first thing you see when you drive up to the Veterans Home,” said Administrator Jon Skillingstad. “The first plan that was drawn up for the renovation just looked bad so we decided to make it be a feature of our facilities.”

The rock, mulch, bushes and a fence added to the newly expanded holding pond is sure to catch your attention driving by.

“We brought a walkway all the way from the main building down to the pond for the residents to go down there and enjoy,” he said.

The Veterans Home still has more work to do to finish the project.

“We plan on putting some benches down there and a pagoda for the residents,” Skillingstad said.
