Otter girls drop two in DL triangular

DETROIT LAKES — The Fergus Falls girls tennis team had a rough day on the road as they dropped two matches against Thief River Falls and Detroit Lakes Friday.

The Otters opened the triangular against Thief River Falls, but could not find their spark losing 5-2.

A Sam Velde win led off game, giving Fergus an early lead. The Prowlers were able to take control over the rest of the singles matches and only dropped the third doubles to Hannah Nelson and Emma Clark.

In the second match of the triangular, the Otters saw a repeat as Detroit Lakes took home the win 5-2.

The Lakers were able to steal all four singles matches, sealing a team victory early on.

Fergus’ Kaci Walvatne and Livi Stigen picked up a win at number one doubles in two sets, while teammates Nelson and Clark also picked up a two set win.

“I was really impressed with the play of our doubles teams today against DL,” Otters coach Jamie Lill said. “We are showing improvement and getting a little better with each match.”

The Otter girls will look to get back on the right track as they travel to take on Sartell-St. Stephen Sabres Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
