Ranked Yellowjackets take 1st, 2nd at Wadena
Published 9:44am Wednesday, September 5, 2012WADENA — The Perham Yellowjackets were able to put up another great showing as the boys cross country team ran away with first, while the girls team took runner-up honors Tuesday afternoon.
The No. 1 (Class A) ranked boys team hit the course and looked to work a different strategy than used in their last meet.
The plan payed off as the ‘Jackets saw all seven runners place in the top nine as Perham took the top spot at the meet.
“I would have to do some looking, but I believe this is the first time my entire top 7 has broken 18:00 at this course and we have been coming here the last 10 years,” Perham coach Jeff Morris said.
Keeghan Hurley picked up his second individual win of the season with a time of 16:49, while teammate Brady Speicher took third with a time of 17:01.
In girls action, the Perham girls took second place just behind Little Falls.
“Our girls team are starting to really push through mentally in races, something we have struggled to do last season. Really leading the way for us as a leader in practice and in meets is senior Ciarrin Covington. She is really spurring the girls to get better every day in practice,” Morris added.
Covington finished sixth with a time of 16:48, while sister Brynnan led the Yellowjacket girls with a time of 16:43 to finish in second place overall.
The Yellowjackets will now prepare for a big meet in Little Falls Thursday, Sept. 13 at 4 p.m.
