Fall youth programs start at the library [UPDATED]

Our busy and exciting summer reading program has ended and we are ready to start fall programming for children and teens at the Fergus Falls Public Library.

For further information and more details, please visit our website (www.fergusfalls.lib.mn.us) or Facebook page, or pick-up a flier at the library.

I would like to thank the Friends of the Fergus Falls Public Library who continue to support youth programming year after year. These programs would not be possible without this group of dedicated community members.

All programs at FFPL are free charge and open to the public.

Storytime is held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and runs Sept. 18 through Dec. 12. The Baby and Toddler session, ages 0 -2, is from 9:30-10 a.m. and the Preschool session, ages 3-5, is from 10:30-11:15 a.m.

Registration is not required. Tot Cafe (open playtime at the library) is for children ages 0-5 and their caregivers. Tot Cafe is held on Thursdays from 9 to 11 a.m. and runs from Sept. 20 through Dec. 13.

The popular monthly program “2nd Saturdays” is held the second Saturday of the month from October through May at 10 a.m.

This family-friendly event is great for younger children. On Oct. 13 we’ll have a visit from the fire department; Nov. 10 will be a symphony storytime, and Santa will visit on Dec. 8.

Youth Chess continues after-school on Tuesdays. Children and teens of all ages are welcome. Chess mentors will be available to offer guidance and even teach kids how to play. Chess sets are provided.

At the request of its members, our Book Bunch book club program will now separate by gender during the school year. Book Bunch for Girls will meet in the fall and the boys will meet in the spring. Girls in 4th through eighth grade can register now (space is limited).

We will meet on Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m.; Oct. 25 through Dec. 13. We will be reading “Emma-Jean Lazarus Fell Out of a Tree,” by Lauren Tarshis.

We also have some special events coming up: Ivy +Bean Day on Oct. 12, Pajama Storytime on Nov. 15, and a Holiday Movie Marathon on Dec. 27.

The Library NINJAS is our teen advisory group and is open to students in grades sixth through 12th. New members are also welcome. Members get to play games, eat snacks, and help make the library better.

For more information, interested students should stop by the NINJAS’ open house on Tuesday, Sept. 11, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The NINJAS generally meet twice a month on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30.

The library also offers a monthly teen event (grades sixth – 12th). These are held on Wednesdays at 4: p.m. Registration is recommended. On Oct. 10 we’ll be playing Apples to Apples and tattooing bananas. Nov. 14 we’ll be making digital art collages, and Dec. 12 it’s Angry Birds crafts and games.
