Lou Jean Arlene Schroeder Paler, 85, of Fergus Falls

Lou Jean Paler, died Wednesday, Sept, 5, 2012, at her home under the care of her family and Lakeland Hospice.

She was born April 11, 1927, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of George G. and Gladys (Sorenson) Siems. She grew up in Fergus Falls attending Lincoln Elementary School, and Fergus Falls High School, graduating in 1945.

She then attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Fargo.

On Jan. 1, 1947, she married Lawrence R. Schroeder in Fergus Falls. Lou Jean enjoyed being a homemaker and helpmate. She took great pleasure in decorating her homes, which she and her husband, Lawrence, built. She would do the wood finishing, the staining of cabinets and wood trim in all their homes. She also loved to paint.

Lou Jean especially loved the lake and her lake home.

She was a charter member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls where she participated in many activities. She and Lawrence donated the land the church was built on.

Lou Jean enjoyed gardening, decorating, sewing and creating window treatments, playing cards, and loved to bake and entertain. Spending time with her family and friends brought her special joy. She will be missed by those she loved.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lawrence who died in 1988; an infant daughter, Kathryn Schroeder; an infant son, Todd Schroeder; a grandson, Justin Schroeder; and her second husband, Charles Paler, who died in 2000.

Survivors include her children, Deborah (Jim) Tostenson, Fergus Falls, Gary Schroeder, Erhard, George (Barbara) Schroeder, Moorhead, Kent Schroeder, Everett, Wash., Kevin (Heather) Schroeder, Spokane, Wash., and Jill Schroeder, Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Kyle (Cordy) Tostenson, San Antonio, Texas, Kara Tostenson, Key West, Fla., Travis (Andrea) Schroeder, Fargo, Trevor Schroeder, St. Paul, Todd (Dawn) Schroeder, Fergus Falls, Shane Schroeder, Minneapolis, Haley Schroeder, Duluth, Melissa (Tim) True, Hastings, Ryan Schroeder, Hendrum N.D., Stephanie (Wade) Eddi, Moorhead, Chris (Lindsey) Holmgren, Moorhead, Jeremy Schroeder, Everett, Wash., Jason Wegner, Rochester, and Cynthia Schroeder, Snohomish, Wash.; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Georgene Hegstad of Fergus Falls; and a sister-in-law, Leona Schroeder of Fergus Falls.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls.
