Hillcrest hijacks Pirates 10-0
Published 10:44am Friday, September 7, 2012The Hillcrest boys soccer team kept their winning streak on a roll Thursday afternoon as they were able to score eight goals in the first half and cruise to a 10-0 victory over Crookston.
Only a minute and a half into the game, captain Luis Martinez booted a Daniel Romarheim and Chris Pellegrino pass into the back of the Pirates net. Thirty second later, Martinez would return the favor to Pellegrino for the second Comet goal. Evan Gronlund kept the scoring assault alive as he scored Hillcrest’s third goal a minute later.
The Pirates were able to hold the Comets for a few minutes, until Anders Bjorndal hit the first of three goals off a David Solberg feed at the 17 minute mark. Bjorndal followed three minutes later with his second goal and Romarheim added his first goal of the contest to give Hillcrest a 6-0 lead. Bjorndal finished the hat trick a minute later and Eduardo Urbano nailed in the eighth goal for the Comets before the half.
In the second half, the Comets looked to increase their lead and did off a Gronland goal at the 52 minute mark. Romarheim would score his second and the final goal of the match at the 60 minute mark to add the icing to the cake.
“The Comets saw excellent crisp passing in the first half that kept the pirates back on their heels and created several offensive opportunities,” Comet coach Rod Jensen. “The Comet defense swarmed all Pirate attacks preventing Crookston from getting a clear shot on goal.”
The Comets will take on cross town rivals the Fergus Falls Otters Monday at 6 p.m. at the Kennedy Secondary soccer field.
