A $70.3 million molasses desugarization plant to be added to the Wahpeton sugar beet factory was approved by the Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative board on Aug. 28, according to a story in the Fargo Forum.

The facility, which also will be a load-out facility, is considered a major expansion to the plant, according to David Roche, the company’s president and chief executive. It is expected to add 20 jobs. Construction is expected to begin this month, and last two years.

The project will have a five-year tax exemption from Richland County at 100 percent and another five years at 50 percent.
