SAUK RAPIDS — The Fergus Falls Otter volleyball team continued their early season success Thursday evening as they defeated the Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm 3-1 (25-11, 25-27, 25-17, 25-22).delivery

“We let our guard down in the second set,” Otters coach Renee Erickson said. “We let a good Sauk Rapids team in the door. The girls made adjustments in the third set and played aggressive the rest of the evening.”

Laura Gaustad had a great night on the court for the Otters posting 11 kills, 18 digs and going 13 for 13 from the service line with three aces. Teammate Devonie Smith added 22 digs and three service aces of her own in the victory.

Fergus Falls players combined for a total of 13 aces in the match.

The Otters will have little time to rest as they take to the road to participate in the Southwest Minnesota State University Challenge Friday.

“We are trying to keep well hydrated, make smart decisions and get our much needed sleep as we prepare for this stretch of games,” added Erickson.

The Otters will open against Andover at 6:15 p.m.
