Area under red flag fire warning

Published 11:26am Monday, September 10, 2012

Otter Tail County is on the western edge of a red flag fire warning issued for today by the National Weather Service. All counties adjacent to Otter Tail County except Todd are also under the warning.

The red flag warning was announced because of high winds, low humidity and dry potential fire fuels throughout much of the U.S.’s upper west and midwest. The warning, which indicates easy starting and spreading conditions for fires, stretches from parts of Oregon and Washington all the way to western Minnesota and south into Kansas.

In Fergus Falls, temperatures are projected to be in the high 80s today, with winds close to 25 mph. The humidity in Fergus Falls is projected at 38 percent.

People within a red flag fire warning are asked to use caution around potentially sources of flame and flammable materials.
