ASHBY — The Ashby Arrows were able to get their first win of the season as they defeated Brandon-Evansville 30-6 Friday evening.

“Hats off to our seniors and their leadership and dedication throughout this week getting ready for B-E,” Arrows coach Andy Campbell said. “Our kids wanted this game and we came out and took it; we played with a giant chip on our shoulders.”

Arrows quarterback Blake Ohren struggled in the air throwing three interceptions in the game. But what Ohren could not do with his arm he did with his legs as he rushed for 200 yards and a touchdown.

Teammate Gage Olson also had a great day on the ground scoring three touchdowns and finished the night with 178 yards rushing.

“We had a tough time handling Ashby’s blitz,” Charger coach Tim Pattrin said. “Our boys kept fighting but we just couldn’t get our offense going.”

The Charger defense was able to hold Brandon in most of the game as Craig Campbell, James Huisman and Clayton Statesberry each had an interception in the loss.

The Arrows will now travel to take on No. 3 (9-man) ranked Wheaton/Herman-Norcross Friday at 7 p.m., while the Chargers will look better luck as they open their home season against Hancock Friday at 7 p.m.
