Bond would bring soccer fields to size
Published 11:24am Monday, September 10, 2012For the first time in Fergus Falls history, soccer teams in the area might have a full-size soccer field to call their own.
For this to happen, the Outdoor Facilities Bond Referendum would need to pass on Nov. 6. The $6.27 million project would reorganize and upgrade many of the school’s outdoor facilities and add space for physical education classes, practices and games.
While the soccer team is getting along OK the way things are, the upgrades would benefit Fergus Falls soccer in several ways, said head boys soccer coach Beau Krueger.
The main soccer fields would be moved to Cleveland, and for the first time ever, there would be a full-size soccer field for teams to play on.
“The fields we play on now meet the minimum regulations, but it’s not optimal,” said Krueger. “By extending the fields to the width we need them to be, one side of the field slopes up and the other slopes down.”
This can become an issue for teams when they are passing down the sidelines. Sometimes the ball will roll out of bounds when it wouldn’t on a flatter field, Krueger said.
The soccer team sometimes has games on the football field, which has similar down sloping problems when the width is extended.
Another benefit to the outdoor facilities reconfiguring would be location. When there are two games going on at the same time, they would be right next to each other. With the current layout, those games would have to be played at different locations, he said.
“It would be easier for us and easier for visiting teams,” said Krueger. “Right now if the varsity and JV play at the same time, varsity plays at the Kennedy soccer field and JV plays at Cleveland.”
The field quality would improve with a sprinkler system. The fields get very dry later in the season, and the grass gets pretty ripped up, Krueger said.
Krueger also thinks that by making Cleveland “the soccer fields,” exposure to younger kids could be increased.

What is wrong with using the wonderful soccer fields in DeLagoon? They work well for all the summer programs for all those who play. They must be regulation since the teams that play on them cover the state. I think you need to really think about what is a need and a want. Everyone I know has to make concessions in this economy, and I don’t believe you are privileged and should make them too.
Vote No……….use the fields at DeLagoon, taxes already going up 15% for new cop shop
A few more benches in various benchless parks or more seating area on main street would suffice.
Also, how about tear down some of the branches for the drug-filled junkies trolling around the dam area?
That would be much cheaper for the citizens of Fergus Falls.
Why do you people hate kids so much? If they want it, then by all means do it for the children. My gosh, if they don’t get the bigger fields they will always feel at a disadvantage for the rest of their lives and will be in constant therapy because of it. How mean spirited of all of you. Ha, what a crock. Economy is in the tank and they need new fields for this garbage too. Oh no, the ball will roll out of bounds. What a tragedy. Get over it. My yard would benefit greatly from a in-ground sprinkler as well but I cannot afford it. Thats the way life is people.
No one hates kids! The facts are is how much do they need all of this at the beck and call. Then there is the other one, where we are getting taxed to death, and many in our city, don’t have any more to give. Goes back to trying to get blood out of a Turnip.
What’s the use. I might as well give ALL my money to the city and the school district. I’ll just let my residence deteriorate so the city and school have all the “nice” things.
Ms. Roen, Frizzel Boscoe was being sarcastic.
LOL, sarcasm is wasted on some.
The real problem is there are people out there who believe that it going to be manna. Not another bill for those of us in the district to pick up. Who is going to stand up and be part of the Vote NO committee? Vote yes had their first meeting tonite?
