In the battle of city supremacy, the Hillcrest Comet boys soccer team laid claim to the title defeating the Fergus Falls Otters 3-1 Monday evening at Kennedy Secondary soccer field.

Comet captain Luis Martinez started the scoring off with a 30 yard blast at the 10 minute mark to put Hillcrest up early.

The Comets would add another goal at the 27 minute mark as Romario Moreno booted a high looping shot that found the back of the Fergus net.

The first half ended with the Comets leading the Otters 2-0.

In the second half, Otter Sam Rausch put Fergus on the board as he nailed a free kick into the upper right corner of the Comet goal at the 50 minute mark.

The Comets to put the game out of reach eight minutes later as Eduardo Urbano split the Fergus defense and slipped the ball into the net.

“The Comets saw excellent field play from Danny Franco, Jason Frustol, Chris Franco, and Anders Bjorndal,” Comet coach Rod Jensen said.

“This is the second game in a row that the team has played with intensity from start to finish,” Otter coach Beau Krueger said. “We are making progress, but still made some very fundamental mistakes during this game. Overall, I see the team coming together and improving as we move into the middle portion of the season.”

The Comets will look to continue their good fortune as they host East Grand Forks Saturday at 3 p.m., while the Otters will be back on the road Thursday as they take on the Willmar Cardinals at 5 p.m.
