Firefighters halt grass fire in Battle Lake area

Published 11:30am Tuesday, September 11, 2012

Battle Lake and Underwood firefighters managed to stop a grass fire in its tracks Saturday before it could reach a home near First Silver Lake, law enforcement reported.

The fire began near a horse barn on the north side of the lake before quickly spreading south. High winds and dry conditions caused the blaze to spread quickly, burning up a pasture about a half-mile long.

The fire moved quickly toward a home at 36417 North Silver Lake Rd., but the Battle Lake and Underwood fire departments responded to the scene and contained the fire before it could do any damage.

The cause of the fire is unknown and currently under investigation.
