Battle Lake and Underwood firefighters extinguished a grass fire Monday that started on the Battle Lake city farm south of First Silver Lake and near County Highway 83.

The fire started around 12:20 p.m., Battle Lake police reported. It appears that an ash from a recent controlled burn at the site blew into some brush and set it on fire, consuming brush and some small trees at the site but not reaching any buildings. The fire reached about a half acre but was contained to the farm by firefighters.
