Lorena Bernice Tollerson, 93, of Fergus FallsPublished 9:22am Tuesday, September 11, 2012 Updated 11:27am Tuesday, September 11, 2012
She was born Feb. 12, 1919, in Eagle Lake Township in Otter Tail County, the daughter of Peder and Victoria (Lang) Evavold. She was baptized and confirmed at Grue Lutheran Church, rural Ashby. She attended country school at District 67.
On May 19, 1939, she married Kenneth Tollerson in Sisseton, South Dakota. They made their home in Fergus Falls where she was a homemaker and they raised their seven children.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
Lorena enjoyed gardening, canning, making pickles, baking and cooking — she made great doughnuts, cheesecakes and scalloped potatoes. Spending time outdoors doing yard work and tending to her beautiful flower gardens was another favorite activity.
In her earlier years, she and Kenneth loved to go dancing. You couldn’t leave her house without eating.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Kenneth, who died in 1993; a son, Kenneth Jr., who died in 2007; and all 11 of her siblings, Stanton, Alex, Frances, Clarence, Melvin, Eunice, Royal, Walter, Evelyn, Iver, and Doris. She was the last surviving child in her family.
Survivors include her children, Lyle “Pete” (Marlys) Tollerson, Kathleen (Ralph) Stinar, Lowell (Nancy) Tollerson, Steven Tollerson, and Victor (Vonnie) Evavold, all of Fergus Falls, and Victoria (Henry) Martin of Elizabeth; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred to the Zion Lutheran Church Building Fund or to PioneerCare.
