Spartan men win at The Quarry

BIWABIK — The M State Spartan Men’s golf team celebrated a victory at The Quarry at Giant’s Ridge Monday as Spartan golfers Lucas Gervais and Taylor Shuck took co-medalist honors.

The Spartan men were able to shoot a 319 team score to win the event, a day after taking second at the neighboring course, The Legend, Sunday.

Mesabi Range took second at the event (330), while Hibbing rounded out the top three with a 365 team score.

Gervais and Shuck tied for first place medalist honors, each shooting a 78. Teammate Rob Goff just missed making it a three way split as he shot a 79 at the event.

“I was very happy with our performance today on a very windy day on a difficult golf course,” Spartan coach Jason Retzlaff said. “Our 319 today was better than our 316 yesterday as the conditions were more difficult.”

The Spartans will now travel to the Rochester Invite in Lake City Thursday at 1 p.m.
