Elnora Godwin, 96, of Fergus Falls

Elnora Godwin, formerly of Ashby died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012.

Elnora Godwin was born July 14, 1916 to Jacob and Amelia (Voight) Hayenga, near Eagle Bend. She attended grade school at the Red Oak School 82 in Todd County and high school in Clarissa. She completed her Teacher’s Training School in Long Prairie.

On March 16, 1935 Elnora was united in marriage to Gerald D. Godwin of Bagley, Iowa. During her active life, she raised three sons, taught school and assisted in the running of the family business. Upon retirement Elnora enjoyed golf, sewing and living in Florida, Texas plus the Alexandria and Ashby areas.

After the death of her husband, she moved to the Sheridan House in Fergus Falls.

She is survived by her sons, Douglas (Judith) of Dalton and Howard (Bonnie) of Kerrville, Texas; seven grandchildren, Bradley Godwin of Onalaska, Wis., Andrea (Gregory) Miller of Eden Prairie, Monica (Mitchell) Stueck of Montevideo, Bethany (Mike) Bakalar of La Crosse, Wis., Bryan (Vanessa) Godwin of Williamsburg, Va., Heidi Sargent of McKinney, Texas, and Jeff Godwin (Lisa) of Elbow Lake; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nephews and nieces. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gerald; one son, Robert; one daughter-in-law, Nancy; her parents; two brothers; and three sisters.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the Pelican Lake Cemetery.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church

Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012, at the Peace Lutheran Church, Ashby
