Wilma Jean Hovland, 85, of New Brighton
Published 9:16am Wednesday, September 12, 2012 Updated 11:21am Wednesday, September 12, 2012Wilma Hovland, formerly of Dalton, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Health and Rehabilitation of New Brighton.
She was born Jan. 24, 1927, in Southwest City, Mo., the daughter of Byron and Vergie “Dot” (Ames) Tucker.
On Oct. 12, 1952, she married Howard Hovland in Sacramento, Calif. After the couple married, they moved to Mounds View where Wilma worked as an administrator in the government for many years.
In 1975, they built their retirement home on Stalker Lake in rural Dalton, in which Wilma took an active role.
Wilma enjoyed fishing, gardening and baking, and later in life she took up painting and art classes. She was a member of Our Saviors-Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church in Dalton and its Ladies Aide.
Preceding her in death were her husband; her parents; two sisters, Norma and Ruth; and a brother, Jay D.
Survivors include her two children, Wesley (Penny) Hovland of Blaine and Glenna LaMere of Fergus Falls; and six grandchildren, Jonathan Hovland of Mounds View, Cecilia (Joe) Andrade of Blaine, Richard Hovland of Blaine, Eric LaMere of Ham Lake, Nick LaMere of Ham Lake and Ryan LaMere of Fergus Falls.
Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., at the funeral home, and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at Our Saviors-Ten Mile Lake Lutheran Church, Dalton
