Hard work pays off [UPDATED]

Hard work breeds job satisfaction, and the people behind the new County Highway 88 Rest Area should be feeling plenty of job satisfaction these days.

It doesn’t look too fancy, but a quick stop by the rest area reveals a place for scenic sights and peaceful reflection, a place to grab a picnic lunch and admire the greens and blues of rural Fergus Falls.

Two years ago, that now-tranquil niche was just an afterthought off the highway, composed of heavy brush and little else. It was made into what it is today through initiative, resourcefulness and hard work.

Cooperation was another big factor. Though the project was conceived by Vic Petterson, a number of groups assisted in the creation, from area sportsmen’s clubs to local businesses to Sentencing to Service.

The rest area’s creation should serve as an important reminder to enterprising residents: sometimes, the best way to accomplish something is to find a like-minded partner and get to work.
