Family lands on Mars with rover

Keith Gregory and a few dozen of his nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews have landed on Mars, though not in the traditional way.

Last year, he stumbled across a NASA website seeking names and ZIP codes that the agency said would be entered on a microchip that would then be on the Mars Rover when it landed on the red planet.

“Essentially, it will be there forever,” Gregory said. “(The rover) isn’t being retrieved.”

He figured it would be interesting to be a part of history.

NASA sent notification that the names had been received and that they would be included on the microchip.

“So we are all on Mars,” he said with a grin.

Of the family members whose names he submitted, Gregory has heard a few say “that’s pretty cool.”
