Otter Tail Podiatry shoe drive for Soles 4 Souls [UPDATED]

Otter Tail Podiatry in Fergus Falls is gearing up for a major shoe drive in October to benefit Soles 4 Souls, a nonprofit organization that provides shoes for those in need.

“It is estimated that 300 million children living in poverty around the world do not have shoes, and most of them can’t go to school because of that,” Dr. Marc Butcher said. “Adults also have problems because they have no shoes. Soil-transmitted parasites like hookworm afflict 740 million people a year, mostly in Africa. This could be prevented if only these people had shoes to wear.”

The shoe drive will accept shoes of all types and sizes. If shoes are not appropriate for general wear — such as dress shoes — they are sent to entrepreneurs who refurbish and sell them.

A $1 per pair donation is requested to help with the cost of shipping. Cash donations will also be accepted and will be sent to Soles 4 Souls.

During the month of October, donations can be dropped off at Otter Tail Podiatry, 120 E. Junius Ave, Fergus Falls, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
