BERTHA — The Underwood Rockets were able to survive a five set battle with the Bertha Bears Monday evening 3-2 (25-20, 26-28, 22-25, 25-21, 15-9).

The Rockets were able to establish a rhythm in the first set, but fell behind quickly dropping the next two sets.

Bertha seemed to have the momentum in full swing, but Underwood was able to bounce back in set number four to force a decisive fifth set.

The Rockets jumped out to early lead in the final set and were able to keep the Bears at bay for the win.

“Bertha is always a good match for us,” Underwood coach Diane Ross said. “They consistently put a competitive team on the court and you always know have to be ready to play. I liked how we competed at the end of the match, our girls worked hard for the win.”

Carly Masloski had another great offensive night posting 27 kills in the match, while teammate Kaitlyn Holen chipped in 17.

Holen was nearly unstoppable from the service line going 25 of 27 with six aces in the win.

The Rockets will look to continue their winning ways as they travel to take on Little Eight Conference foe Ashby Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
